From Couch to 5K/Parkrun

Running a 5K (3.1 miles) or completing your first Parkrun is an achievable and rewarding goal, no matter your current fitness level. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone who hasn’t laced up their running shoes in years, I can help you go from couch to crossing the finish line with confidence.

Why Run a 5K or Parkrun?

A 5K is the perfect distance for beginners. It’s long enough to feel like an accomplishment but short enough to be attainable with consistent training.

A 5K is an accessible yet challenging distance that offers numerous benefits:

  • Health Improvements: Running improves cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles, and helps with weight management.
  • Mental Well-Being: It reduces stress, boosts mood, and builds confidence.
  • Community Connection: Events like Parkrun foster a sense of belonging and accomplishment.

Get the Right Gear!

You don’t need fancy equipment to start running, but a good pair of running shoes is essential. Message me or call me to talk about shoes (help identify your foot type and gait), clothing, etc. Will also make your runs more enjoyable.

Listen to Your Body

Running is a high-impact activity, so it’s important to avoid overdoing it. Start slow, take rest days, and pay attention to any aches or pains. Stretching after your runs and incorporating strength training (especially for your legs and core) can help prevent injuries.

Find a running buddy!

The social aspect can be huge! Plus, having someone to hold you accountable is invaluable. Discover scenic parks, trails, or even just different streets in our neighborhood.

What is a Realistic Goal to achieve a 5K?

Ideally training plan would work out to be 8-9 week. It alternates between walking and running, gradually building your endurance. I will look to adjust the plan to suit your pace and fitness level

What is Parkrun

Parkrun, a free, weekly, timed 5K event held in parks around the world, is a fantastic way to dip your toes into the running community. It’s inclusive, supportive, and open to everyone—whether you run, jog, or walk.
